ADOPT AN ANIMAL

We put a lot of care and effort into ensuring our animals go to the right new homes. In order to do this, we put checks in place to make sure that we are making the right match between animals and new owners.

The adoption process

RSPCA South Bucks has rehomed hundreds of animals over the years. Many were pets that owners needed to part with due to sad circumstances, and some were pets that were abandoned or neglected.

All our animals are rehomed where possible. If they have complications needing specialist care, they are looked after within the branch, by our dedicated volunteer fosterers.

Our volunteer animal co-ordinators, working with the fosterers, ensure that all animals are health checked by a vet, and vaccinated when appropriate. All rabbits and cats are neutered and microchipped, as part of their preparation for adoption, and kittens have arrangements for neutering as soon as they are old enough. We work with neighbouring RSPCA branches to rehome dogs.

The adoption process starts with the perfect match application form. You will find this form linked from the animal profiles. Once we know what you are looking for, and the sort of home that you are offering, we can help you decide on which of our animals will best suit you. Applicants are invited to meet their chosen pets in their foster homes and find out all about them. Once you have found the one(s) for you, we then arrange a home visit, to make sure your space meets RSPCA guidelines, and help you prepare for your new pet(s). All our current animals for adoption can be found above. The national RSPCA website also lists animals from all of its branches at https://www.rspca.org.uk/findapet/rehomeapet

How much does it cost?

We ask you to pay a donation towards the cost of your pet’s care and veterinary treatment during their stay with us.

We ask for the following minimum contributions:

  • Cats: £100.

  • Rabbits: £70 for a single rabbit (to be bonded with owner's own rabbit) £120 for a pair.

  • Guinea pigs: £25 for females, £30 for males.

  • Hamsters: £20.

Welcoming your pet(s)

The final step is to make a date to sign the adoption papers with us and collect your new pet(s). Pets settle in at different rates. At RSPCA South Bucks, we keep in touch if you need advice and support, and welcome updates and photos of your new pet(s) living the life that they deserve. Please email them to cats@rspca-southbucks.org.uk or smallanimals@rspca-southbucks.org.uk We love to hear how they are getting on.
