Appearance vs good health

We have a lot of animals coming into our care or needing our assistance because they are suffering from health issues which are a result of breeding which prioritises appearance over good health and welfare.  Some might be obvious eg animals with flat faces (brachycephaly) who struggle to breathe as a result, or overexaggerated features which are considered 'cute'.  Many issues are less obvious or well known and thousands of animals are left to suffer excruciating pain as a result.
