The importance of neutering your cats

This is one of our lovely mum cats feeding her kittens. She is also now pregnant again.

A mother cat can become fertile just two to three weeks after giving birth, allowing her to conceive a new litter while her current kittens are still drinking milk.

Yes, kittens are beautiful and of course we love them, but constantly being pregnant and giving birth is not good for cats.

Constant pregnancies place severe physical stress on a female cat, leading to nutrient depletion, a high risk of life-threatening uterine infections like pyometra, painful conditions such as mastitis or calcium deficiency (eclampsia), and a significantly shortened overall lifespan.

If you cannot afford to get your cat neutered, we may be able to help. Contact us at welfare@rspca-southbucks.org.uk or complete one of our forms on the website at https://www.rspca-southbucks.org.uk/contact-us

There is currently a kitten crisis and we as a rescue are under enormous pressure due to the number of unwanted kittens coming in to our care.

If you care about cats, please get your felines neutered.
