Lola now

Poor Lola came in to us after an accident, where she got trapped in an electric scooter. She was totally degloved (where the skin comes away from the body) on both sides and her back, and had to have her skin sewn back on. The first picture shows her recovery at 4 weeks (earlier pictures are too graphic to show).

Over the course of 9 weeks she was seen weekly by the vet. Peter at Temple End vets was amazing and he built up a great rapport with Lola. We can't thank him enough for the help and encouragement he gave us in treating Lola and giving her another chance.

For the first few weeks Lola was on big doses of Gabapentin, to keep her as relaxed as possible, and antibiotics to help her heal. She tolerated the bathing really well to keep the many wounds clean to allow them to heal. She had to bear wearing a collar for 8 weeks so that she couldn't get to lick or scratch her many, many stitches, where her skin was literally sewn back on to her body.

Not all of the skin could be reattached and she had big patches of open wounds which had to be kept clean. Obviously as the skin started to reattach to her body, some of it died and had to be removed by the vet. This then allowed the new skin to come through, which was very red to start with. She has made a remarkable recovery, and as you can see by the second picture, her scars are already nearly covered by new fur growth.

Throughout all of this she loved having her head stroked, as for many weeks that was the only area that was not affected. She always leant in for strokes and purred throughout.  Although her fur has grown back really well and her coat is now shiny again, you can still see the scars but this will disappear over time.

Lola is now looking for her forever home. She loves being petted and has a super temperament. You couldn't want for a better cat. She was amazing throughout her ordeal and it was as though she knew everything we were doing was to help her.

We’d like to thank everyone who took part in caring for her.
